I’m not going to lie…I have rolled my eyes at literally every single “selfie museum” pop-up that has come to Los Angeles over the past few years. I didn’t really see the point, and the few I had visited, I found them to be…well, kind of boring? I just chalked it up to not really being for me, but understood that others really like them. I didn’t really plan on visiting any others…

…until we got an email about the I LIKE SCARY MOVIES EXPERIENCE. This interactive art installation was touted as a multi-sensory experience and promised to bring some of our favorite horror films to life while also providing some unique photo opportunities. Color me intrigued.

Last night, we got a chance to check it out before it opens to the public later this week, and boy howdy, did we wind up having a great time! We were able to walk through the worlds of IT, The Shining, Beetlejuice, The Lost Boys, and A Nightmare on Elm Street, and take some pretty awesome photos while doing so. I guess all I needed was an art installation that fit my needs for me to understand how much fun selfie museums can be!

I was impressed with the incredible level of detail that each section provided, with really high-quality sets showcasing each film. Highly stylized and ripe for photo-taking, Maximillian (the experiential artist behind the installation) and his team did an amazing job of bringing these things to life.

You want a picture in the bathtub from The Shining? Done. How about hanging from the trestle bridge like the rest of The Lost Boys? You totally can. Want someone to say your name three times and have some fun with the ladies of Dante’s from Beetlejuice? It’s a thing that can happen!

Seriously, this was a total blast, and seeing all the unique interpretations from the horror films we love was a ton of fun. Yes, I was skeptical at first, but this completely won me over. I’m sold and you should be too. Each photo op was more fun than the last, and they really pulled out all the stops to make this enjoyable for horror fans. I liked the I LIKE SCARY MOVIES EXPERIENCE and if you’re a horror fan, you will too.

The I LIKE SCARY MOVIES EXPERIENCE opens on April 4th and runs through June 16th. Tickets are $39. If you’re not in Los Angeles, don’t worry! This is only the first stop on its tour, so stay tuned for details on future locations.
