Keola Racela’s 2019 horror-comedy Porno screened at the Horrible Imaginings Film Festival. The hilarious pic involves a local movie theater in a small Christian town being invaded by a succubus and features well-developed characters with their own personalities and personal baggage, Not to mention the looming guilt of having unearthed a demon.

Starting off very tongue in cheek, we spy a couple having loud sex in front of a window where we meet two of our main characters watching. “My dad can’t catch me doing this again.” whispers Todd (Larry Saperstein) to Abe (Evan Daves) setting up our first of a few clever revelations throughout the film. The two voyeurs scamper to their movie theater job where we are introduced to the rest of our small ensemble.

Chastity “Chaz” (Katelyn Pearce), Ricky (Glenn Stott), Abe, Todd, and Heavy Metal Jeff (Robbie Tann) are finishing the day as the staff for a small theater and their manager Mr. Pike (Bill Phillips) has rewarded them with a private movie night, making for a seemingly calm evening. Unfortunately while trying to remove a crazed homeless man from the theater he pushes over an Encino Man display revealing a hidden passage. Within the passage, they discover a hidden theater and a mysterious film can with an old film. Against ignoring the wishes of the “straight edge” Jeff, they play the film after hours and unknowingly release the succubus demon Lilith (Katelyn Pearce). From there the movie theater crew must band together and resist their urges if they want to survive the night.

Porno is incredibly strong when it is playing with the horror and the comedy of its outlandish premise. This is the most fun I’ve had in a movie theater in a long time with some segments having the whole audience gasping or howling with laughter. All of the characters are so unique and likable that you want to see all of them survive.

That being said some of the dialogue becomes tedious. When the character secrets get revealed they feel so heavy-handed. Aside from trimming some minutes off of the reveals, I would say what we have is a great looking film with fun characters and a premise that is executed perfectly.

If there is one movie that you support from the features that I have reviewed from the Horrible Imaginings Film Festival make sure its Keola Racela’s Porno. If you can, absolutely see it in theaters. If not, watch it with a group of friends and a couple of beers. This is a perfect party movie with outrageous moments and fun visuals that will blow you away.

You can rest assured that I will be buying this when it comes to BluRay and sharing it with my own group of friends. I’m sure the crazy fun that they will experience will overwhelm their disappointment that I brought Porno instead of a porno.

You can now pick up the movie on iTunes.
