Clover Press has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their newest collection, Rattle of Bones, showcasing the horror fiction of Robert E. Howard! While primarily known for creating Conan the Barbarian, Howard was also a close collaborator with Lovecraft and the other Weird Tales authors of the early twentieth century. Though his horror pieces have been previously collected, they can still be quite difficult to track down and never in a volume quite as stylish as Rattle of Bones, which will be released as a clothbound hardcover with a mounted bookplate cover. Fancy!

Also very exciting are the contributions of illustrator Gabriel Rodriguez, of Locke & Key fame. Rodriguez has provided a series of plate illustrations for the project, which also appear on other merchandise available through the campaign. Each of these pieces feels right at home alongside the stylings of Robert E. Howard and they’re each absolutely stunning in their own right. Check out the postcards in the campaign rewards section and the campaign video to see the illustrations for yourself.

The project is already fully funded, but if you want to secure a copy of Rattle of Bones the Kickstarter campaign will be your best and possibly only chance to do so. While you’re there, check out the other rewards Clover is offering– I personally love the enamel pins and the leather bookmark. The campaign is also marching steadily towards some pretty cool stretch goals: if funding surpasses $18,500 (it’s currently at about $17,500) the publisher will add a satin book ribbon and foil stamping to the spine and back cover of every book. Even fancier! All joking aside, this looks like an incredibly high-quality release and will make a perfect addition to any collection of literary and classic horror. Check out the campaign HERE to secure a copy!

NOTE: as of now, all slipcase editions of the book are sold out, but Clover Press has commented on the campaign page that if demand is high enough they may be able to print more slipcases without Gabriel Rodriguez’s signature. Keep checking the campaign page for updates if you’re interested in picking up one of those versions!
