In a fascinating development ScreenPlus today announced an exclusive partnership with cinema software company, Vista Group, that will enable cinema exhibitors to launch their own personalized VOD platform and offer films directly to their customers for at-home streaming.

The partnership will launch ScreenPlus’ VOD solution in every major territory from this week, promoted by Vista Group, and offers the potential to unlock a new revenue stream both now and in the future. for exhibitors who will be able to activate and customize the platform via their cinema’s website. Do you realize what this could mean? Once the current pandemic fades from memory we could easily have the option to virtually visit movie theaters from the comfort of home.

One of the major hurdles up to this point has been piracy. However ScreenPlus and Vista Group maintain that they are one step ahead of the game. The new VOD platform will feature world class studio grade piracy protection and digital rights management of ScreenPlus with Vista’s cinema operations, management, loyalty and marketing systems.

This is indeed an interesting step and one that might not have developed were it not for the mass closures of  exhibitors worldwide. With cinemas currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, the solution offers exhibitors the opportunity to build new revenue streams and build a continuing relationship with new and existing customers.

Keep your eyes on this development folks. This might be a key moment in the evolution of cinema. Let’s just hope that it isn’t the end of movie going as we know it.
