The first-ever Annual Big Bear Film Summit (BFFS) has announced its film lineup for the festival’s debut. The Summit is set to take place June 12-July12, 2020. The lineup for BFFS’s inaugural edition includes 52 films (12 feature-length and 40 short films and music videos). The festival was created to promote and encourage artistic endeavors around Big Bear Lake, located in Southern California. With the current pandemic still very present, the Big Bear Film Summit made the decision to pivot onto a virtual platform in order to continue the celebration of cinema.

Some competition categories to be featured during the month-long festival include U.S. Narrative and Documentary Features and Shorts, International Narrative and Documentary Features and Shorts, Experimental and Animated Shorts, Student Shorts, Music Videos, and a Screenplay Competition. With such a wide array of categories to choose from, there is definitely something for everyone! Some of the highlights to be expected include David Around’s The One and Only Jewish Miss America, a documentary about Bronx beauty queen Bess Myerson, who faced anti-Semitism and doors in her face at race-restricted venues which barred Jews. And the virtual world premiere of Noah Warner’s The Trap Door at the Edge of the Universe, which follows a private detective following a case surrounding a stolen heirloom. During the investigation process, he discovers an unexpected secret about himself.

BFFS CEO Gabriel Horn commented, “The priority with a film festival always begins and ends with the films and filmmakers, so while we will wait until next year to celebrate the art of independent cinema against the backdrop of this historically Hollywood-friendly area, celebrate those films we will. The debut of the Big Bear Film Summit will be a testament to the ability of the filmmaker to persevere.”
