Jump right back into The Walking Dead this October with The Walking Dead Deluxe— the first fully colored version of the landmark series by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard! The rerelease will feature colors by Dave McCaig, who has previously worked on Batman, Star Wars, and a whole lot more.

In addition to seeing the comics in color for the first time, readers will get to see a diverse array of variant covers commemorating memorable characters and important moments in the series. Variant covers will feature a variety of guest artists: as of now David Finch, Tony Moore, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams have all contributed, with more almost certainly on the horizon as further issues are produced. The Walking Dead Deluxe will also feature a new installment of “The Cutting Room Floor,” featuring Kirkman’s original handwritten plots along with commentary on abandoned storylines and plot points that may have changed along the way.

This looks like a must-have for completionists and anyone who wants to reread the comics in an entirely new way. The difference that color makes in the atmosphere and visual storytelling is huge and will be an interesting treat for anyone who’s familiar with the black and white. Don’t just take my word for it, Image/Skybound have released a few teaser pages (below) which look great and feel a world apart from the original.

A final note– according to the publisher these issues will not be collected in a trade paperback anytime soon, so if you want to read this version you should jump on the single releases, which will begin on October 7 and will continue with 2 issues per month.
