Thursday, October 1st is an important day for filmmaker Josh Ruben. Why you may ask? Because that is when his feature film SCARE ME arrives on VOD. The horror-comedy tells the tale of a storytelling competition held in a dimly lit cabin between writers Fred (Josh Ruben) and Fanny (Aya Cash). The power is out, the fireplace is roaring, and the two spar to frighten each other by spinning yarns of fright. Of course along the way darker fears are uncovered and we explore what really scares a storyteller.

SCARE ME, which premiered at Sundance 2020 has been picked up by horror streaming service SHUDDER and will arrive Oct 1. Ahead of the film’s wide release writer-director and star Josh Ruben sat with us via COVID-friendly ZOOM to chat about his film and the trials of creating in the currently dismal atmosphere. Affable Ruben discusses his origins in the industry and we explore such topics as fear, producing, and misogyny in the industry. Please enjoy this chat!
