Do you believe in destiny? Or perhaps, inevitable consequences? I invite you to ponder these ideas, as I did before entering The Door.
Last night, I was presented with an opportunity to open The Door that would lead me to The Speakeasy Society’s third chapter of their Kansas Collection. As the knob turned and I was lead through, I knew that every choice I would make from that point forward would have consequences; some might say “inevitable consequences.” Would I stay true to my allegiance to Scarecrow’s Armed Militia, or would I stand alongside the rebels of the Patchwork Resistance? A choice must be made, and each has its share of consequences.
Throughout the show, I was presented with opportunity, choices, familiar faces, and some that were not-so-familiar. At many points during the experience, we (the audience) were presented with choices that would determine the course our story would take. As the scene progressed and more of the story unfolded, I realized the significance each of our decisions served. Every choice we made from the very moment we opened the door had a consequence. Many of these consequences affected others more than ourselves. For some, this lead to tragedy. For others, it lead to success.
The Speakeasy Society is well-known for creating intimate experiences filled with phenomenal talent, and The Door did not disappoint. Each character was brought to life by the incredible actors that filled their shoes, allowing the audience to be truly immersed in the dystopia of Oz. Every character encounter I had was meaningful and served a powerful purpose, allowing me to become further invested in my own part of the mission (whichever side that may be). I cannot express enough how impressed I have been by the actors involved in this series, and experiencing their work has been such a pleasure in itself.
While each show is meant to serve as a stand-alone experience, I highly recommend experiencing the first two chapters of The Kansas Collection in order to gain the full experience of The Door. You will find that your experience in the first two chapters will serve an invaluable purpose as you navigate through The Door.
