Capcom Unleashes New Monster Hunter and Onimusha Bombshells

Capcom turned heads at the latest PlayStation State of Play broadcast, showing off a final look at the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds and unveiling a brand-new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Fans also got wind of the Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny remaster arriving on modern platforms just in time for summer. Here’s a closer look at everything that was announced.

Monster Hunter Wilds Prepares for Launch and Beyond

Monster Hunter Wilds is only a few short weeks from release, and Capcom celebrated with a spectacular launch trailer that teases the fearsome foes waiting in the Forbidden Lands. The footage spotlighted Jin Dahaad, an apex predator of the Iceshard Cliffs, and a never-before-seen variant of the classic Rathalos. As if that weren’t enough, the publisher also hinted at how the adventure continues after the credits roll.

  • Free Title Update 1
Coming in Spring 2025, the first title update brings back Mizutsune, renowned for ensnaring prey with its slippery, bubble-based attacks.
  • Event Quests
Starting a week post-launch on February 28, these limited-time hunts offer special armor rewards, encouraging hunters to keep coming back for more.

With console releases on PlayStation®5 (including PS5®Pro Enhanced support) and Xbox Series X|S, plus a PCdebut on Steam, there are plenty of ways to start carving up monsters. Pre-orders unlock the “Guild Knight Set” layered armor and the “Hope Charm” Talisman, while PlayStation players can snag a Digital Mini Art Book for an extra taste of the game’s ever-changing world.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword—A Legendary Samurai Reborn

Capcom also peeled back the curtain on Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the first all-new installment in the samurai action series in nearly 20 years. This time, the starring role is filled by none other than Miyamoto Musashi, a legendary figure in Japanese history.

In a supernatural twist, Musashi acquires the Oni Gauntlet, granting him the power to battle the dreaded Genma that have plunged Kyoto into chaos. If the Genma hordes weren’t imposing enough, the trailer teased the behemoth Byakue, an axe-wielding menace whose blood-soaked weapon only grows stronger in the heat of battle.

  • Historical & Mythic Blend
Real-world landmarks like Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera Temple meet demonic threats from a twisted underworld, blending fact and fantasy.
  • Cutting-Edge Swordplay
The series’ hallmark of intense sword-to-sword combat returns, with timing and soul absorption playing crucial roles in each encounter.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword slashes its way onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2026.
