Laurence Fishburne has officially joined the cast of The Exorcist, the upcoming feature from writer-director Mike Flanagan. Produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment for Universal Pictures, the project is scheduled for theatrical release on March 12, 2027, with production set to take place in New York City.
Fishburne joins a growing ensemble that includes Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Diane Lane, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The film is described as an original story set within The Exorcist universe rather than a continuation of 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. Flanagan will write and direct under his Red Room Pictures banner, with Alexandra Magistro executive producing and David Robinson producing. Jason Blum and Ryan Turek also serve as producer and executive producer, respectively.
An actor whose career spans more than five decades, Fishburne is widely recognized for performances across film, television, and theater, including his portrayal of Morpheus in The Matrix trilogy. His addition further signals the production’s commitment to assembling an experienced cast as Flanagan develops a new chapter tied to one of horror cinema’s most enduring properties.
