Fellow Traveller has announced that Penguin Colony, a Lovecraftian narrative horror experience from ORIGAME DIGITAL — the indie studio behind the acclaimed Umurangi Generation — has joined its publishing label. The game is set to launch on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch 2 later in 2026, with a playable demo available during the Summer Game Fest window and June’s Steam Next Fest.
Penguin Colony reimagines the cosmic horror tradition of H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness from a radically unexpected vantage point: the penguins of Antarctica. Players explore the frozen landscape as one of many birds in the colony, uncovering the fate of two factions drawn to the continent by something ancient calling from beneath the ice. One faction seeks to harness the power of an incomprehensible ancient being; the other wants to return it to its slumber — before it’s too late.
The open-ended environments are traversed by waddling, sliding, and swimming across the ice. Different penguins carry different abilities and limitations, allowing multiple perspectives on the world and its mysteries. The story unfolds through environmental discovery and narration, gradually layering in a deeper, unsettling truth buried far below the surface.
ORIGAME DIGITAL is a studio based in Aotearoa New Zealand (Ahitereiria) whose debut game, Umurangi Generation, won the Independent Games Festival Grand Prize in 2020. Fellow Traveller, the Melbourne-based label known for narrative-driven standouts including Citizen Sleeper, Paradise Killer, and The Pale Beyond, continues to be one of the most interesting publishers in the space for story-rich genre games.
