At Midsummer Scream big panels are hitting heavy on Sunday as Six Flags Magic Mountain hit crowds with the latest info on what is coming to FrightFest for 2016. Starting off the team from Six Flags Magic Mountain entered the stage; Director of Entertainment and events for Six Flags Parks, Scott Sterner Entertainment Manager for Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, Pam Bugbee, FrightFest Creative Producer for Six Flags Magic Mountain, Mark Wing and Publicist Extrordanier Connie Lujan, and Communications Manager, Sue Carpenter. Making it abundantly clear that they are NOT messing around, the presentation opened with a a savage video introducing the scares and thrills of the event. When the lights rose, an army of aggressively creepy monsters entered the theatre, scaring guests, some even invading the stage, taunting the speakers.
Sterner opened the discussion by talking about the multiple scare zones that are featured at the theme park haunt event. “To begin with they have always tried to create varied environments run their scare zones.” Sterner remarked, noting the different environments that are featured around the park. Back by popular demand haunted scare zones include TERRORtory Twisted, located in the Screampunk District, which is Magic Mountain’s biggest scare zone and features steam-spewing mechanical beasts relentlessly hunting down their victims. Beware of the terrifying giant spider looming at the entrance.
They next moved on to the mazes. First up were the returning favorites including the demented 3D twist, Toyz of Terror 3D, the defunct toy factory haunted by wicked windups, freakish furries and deranged dolls…and if that’s not enough to scare the wits out of even the bravest, guests are now forced to experience the madness in 3D terror. Willoughby’s Resurrected is a reincarnation of the Willoughby family’s beloved haunted mansion that includes hair-raising horror down long harrowing hallways and around each nightmarish-turn. Surprisingly Chupacabra will be returning and, while good, it suffers from a few issues. Thankfully the creative team assured the audience that improvements would be made to all mazes make this the best year yet.
In fact, they took this chance to announce the arrival of a new GIGANTIC maze for 2016. Aftermath 2 Chaos Rising will be the biggest maze in Fright Fest history featuring a staggering 40,000 of scares in a dystopian future.
The Park’s largest outdoor maze ever built, Aftermath 2: Chaos Rising, debuts in 2016 in a brand new location in Cyclone Bay near the former spot of the Deja-Vu coaster. This massive maze will strike terror into the brave souls entering a post-apocalyptic city inhabited by nomad warriors who rule with bone-crushing iron fists and the dead stalk the living. Larger-than-life props, fire, fog and other special effects make this a must-experience maze.
Then they dropped the big news. Referring to the DC Universe are oaf the park, the team on stage explained that they wanted to really go all out in this section of the park. The lights faded and suddenly this played.
Yes, The Suicide Squad was coming to DC Universe for Fright Fest! Suicide Squad: The Six Flags Fright Fest Experience will transform the Park’s DC UNIVERSE area into DC’s Midway City, where some of the “Worst Heroes Ever” from the highly-anticipated film Suicide Squad will be roaming the streets. This all-new high tech scare zone will feature digital effects on the scenic elements nearby that will engulf visitors in chaos and flames.
While the other parks charge a separate admission for their haunt events, Six Flags let’s guests roam free in the park as the park transforms at 7pm into a Halloween haven of terror. Visitors can stay in the park and enjoy the rides and scare zones included in park admission. But, if they want to get more scary, they can buy access to the mazes. It’s an innovative way to do it that has worked out well for them.
