Rupture, the new film from writer/director Steven Shainberg is coming to theaters and VOD this spring.  Six years after his debut film Hit Me in 1996, Shainberg hit big with his darkly comedic S&M romance Secretary.   Starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Spader as a newly hired secretary and her sadomasochistic boss, the widely acclaimed film won numerous awards. Gyllenhaal received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.  Now ten years after his last film Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus Shainberg returns with his entry into the world of sci-fi/horror.

Official synopsis: RUPTURE Poster ArtSingle mom Renee Morgan (Noomi Rapace) has learned to be strong by necessity. One day, after dropping her son off at school and going about daily chores, she’s suddenly abducted and locked away in a truck that drives off — and continues driving for days. Wherever she’s being taken, it’s very far away. The truck finally arrives at a large, mysterious facility that could be pharmaceutical, could be governmental, could be anything. A mysterious man begins to question her about her medical history. He then starts asking about her fears. Renee realizes just how irrational and frightening a situation she’s in. Others arrive, observing her. Why Renee? What could these people want? The answers to both questions lie far from any scenario she could possibly imagine.

Co-written by Hard Candy writer Brian Nelson and shot by cinematographer Karim Hussain (Antiviral, We are Still Here,) Rupture also stars Peter Stormare (Fargo,) Michael Chiklis (The Fantastic Four,) Lesley Manville (Maleficient,) and Kerry Bishé (Argo.) AMBI Group will present Rupture in theaters and VOD on April 28th with a special early release on March 30th exclusively on DirecTV.
