In what was seen as a foregone conclusion, Universal Studios Hollywood announces the return of FX’s critically-acclaimed, Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award-winning television series “American Horror Story,” bringing Ryan Murphy’s demented “Roanoke” installment to life at this year’s “Halloween Horror Nights” event, beginning Friday, September 15, 2017.
Creative Director at Universal Studios Hollywood and Executive Producer of “Halloween Horror Nights,” John Murdy today tweeted his reasons for focusing strictly on Roanoke…
This year we’ve decided to focus on a single season of AHS, the most recent season…Roanoke. I’ll let you in on why we decided to do that..

In all the research and preparation we did for last year’s maze, I obviously watched A LOT of AHS…every episode many times over…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) June 15, 2017
The maze last year was extremely well received by our fans and the fans of AHS. But after last year I wanted to take a different approach…

Each season of AHS is its own world. Each season has plenty of content for its own maze. So we wanted to focus on a single season this time

Because we’re focusing on Roanoke this year, that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about Coven and Asylum. It means we’re saving them…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) June 15, 2017
So that’s why we took the approach we did. We get to do an in-depth Roanoke maze hitting all the major scenes, characters, etc.

Cold comfort for California fans dying to walk though the halls of the Briarcliff Manor is the promise of revisiting the season later. Do we dare dream for dedicated mazes for Coven and Asylum down the road?
The all-new disturbing maze, reimagined in acute and disturbing details, will unmask a cast of deranged killers, from the cannibalistic Polk family who subsist by feeding upon innocent victims to The Butcher who thrives on human sacrifices. Trapped in a vicious circle of evil and murder, guests will find themselves in a life or death battle to outrun the nightmare of Roanoke before the vindictive spirts and demented killers soak the earth with the blood of their victims.
As for the location, Murdy again tweets that deet…
The maze will be in the same location as AHS last year, in the Metro area of the Universal Studios movie backlot.

“The macabre mind of Ryan Murphy brings a treasure-trove of limitless possibilities to ‘Halloween Horror Nights,” said Murdy. “Because of the multitude of terrifying layers that come to life within this latest installment of FX’s ‘America Horror Story,’ we are devoting our entire maze to uncovering every twisted detail to fully immerse our guest into the Roanoke storyline.”
