Oscar winning Laika Studios has opened up a bigger, more extravagant venue this year at 350 Fifth Avenue, Downtown San Diego just in time for Pride Week and San Diego Comic Con. Horrorbuzz got a chance to mingle with the characters, props and who’s who of this animation picture giant.

Kubo and The Two Strings, Coraline, Boxtrolls and Paranorman are on the regular loop of requested movies in our household. The visuals are astounding and the story lines are ones that both kids and adults can connect with.

If you are lucky enough to be in San Diego this week through Sunday, the Laika installation is definitely worth checking out. Laika is celebrating their 10th anniversary with sets, characters, props and more used in the movies.

We had a lovely time with the curators from the “puppet hospital” who were kind enough to give us an inside scoop to the amazing detail that goes into each second of these movies. Every movement, every hair is painstakingly placed into perfection. The static sets are also handmade with each detail sculpted and cut just so.

Included in this installation are sets from Kubo and The Two Strings. Props from Coraline that are perfect for your postings of social media and so much more. There is also a daily drawing for a pair of Coraline Dunks from Nike!
All of this installation is free!

Don’t miss a chance to get a peek of the newest Laika creation, “Missing Link.” They just finished filming, a process that took five years! “Missing Link” consists of an all-star cast that includes Zach Galifianakis, Zoe Saldana and Hugh Jackman. Annapurna Pictures will release “Missing Link” on April 19th, 2019 and we can’t wait to see the next visual stunner from Laika!

You can also pick up new and exciting merchandise featuring all  of your favorite Laika characters.
