Krikey, an Augmented Reality (AR) mobile gaming announced today its partnership with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for a Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween AR takeover. Krikey will bring the Goosebumps villain, Slappy the ventriloquist dummy, to life with three AR games, with the first game, Trap Slappy Challenge, launching today. The two additional AR games are set to release during the home entertainment window.
Krikey, currently available on the App Store and Google Play, is the first to market with multi-player AR games built on AR Foundation – an SDK toolkit by Unity that combines ARKit from Apple and ARCore from Google.
The Trap Slappy Challenge game will include blocks made of Goosebumps books. You must stack books on the shelf as fast as you can and place Slappy back inside his story before the clock runs out.
In Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, Halloween comes to life in a brand-new comedy adventure based on R.L. Stine’s 400-million-selling series of books. The film stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Madison Iseman, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Caleel Harris, Chris Parnell, and Ken Jeong, and is directed by Ari Sandel.
Krikey allows users in real-time to play AR games with friends from anywhere in the world by using virtual machines to connect two users and quickly having the smartphone’s camera sensors map each physical space to accurately place the AR object. Once the games begin, users compete for the highest score. The games offer infinite playtime and are fun, engaging and easy to play.
“Krikey’s implementation of novel computer vision in tandem with real-time video enables Hollywood to see the potential of scalable AR games with film integrations,” said Ketaki Shriram, CTO of Krikey. “We are always looking to push the boundaries of social AR and look forward to sharing this groundbreaking collaboration!”
To date, Krikey has partnered with Conservation International and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream to launch in-app branded AR games.
