This summer, IFC Midnight presents TRESPASSERS, a new thriller from director Orson Oblowitz.
Synopsis: Two couples, each working through relationship issues, rent a gorgeous house in the desert for a sex- and drug-fueled escape from reality. Sarah (Angela Trimbur) and Estelle (Janel Parrish) are longtime best friends looking forward to reconnecting after a period apart; their boyfriends, Joseph (Zach Avery) and Victor (Jonathan Howard), however, are immediately wary of one another. As tensions escalate over the course of a debaucherous night, things take an unexpected turn when a woman (Fairuza Balk) claiming to be a neighbor with car trouble shows up at the door. She seems harmless enough…or so they think. As the twists and turns pile up, so does the body count.
As happy as I am to see my girl Fairuza Balk again, and although it looks visually intriguing, all I can gather from this trailer is that we’re once again seeing a rehash of The Strangers for the umpteenth time, this time in neon colors. I hate to be *that person*, but the entire “can my violence conquer yours” line is directly lifted from Shutter Island back in 2010. That alone is pretty telling of how original this film will be.
TRESPASSERS will premiere Friday, July 12th on demand, at the IFC Center in New York, and the Arena Hollywood in Los Angeles.
