It’s that spooky time of year! The pumpkins sprout, the ghosts all come out, and the monsters arrive to play. For years, Knott’s Berry Farm has been known as the king of the Halloween Haunts with its annual Knott’s Scary Farm geared towards ages 13 and over. This year they are trying something new! Expanding their family friendly Halloween offerings park wide with the all-new Knott’s Spooky Farm.
The idea of family Halloween fun is nothing new to Knott’s. For years the park offered what they called Camp Spooky, in the Camp Snoopy area of the park. With the growing popularity of all things spooky Knott’s wisely expands the festivities to include each themed area.
The Monsters are Coming, Charlie Brown!
Any kids show that features the Time Warp as a finale song is okay with us. The Monsters are Coming, Charlie Brown is a charming little stage show in the vein of the classic T.V. Specials. A congenial host interacts with our favorite Peanuts characters, Lucy and Charlie Brown, as the radio warns of an impending arrival of monsters.
If you plan on seeing the show, be sure to arrive early and bring little snacks and games for the kids to enjoy while they wait. This show fills up fast and it’s best to arrive early.
Spooky Hollow Maze
One of the most adorable offerings at Knott’s Spooky Farm is the kid-friendly Spooky Hollow Maze. A land of silly, grinning pumpkins, brightly lit paths and giggle-inducing fun.
At the end of the maze, kids can pay to decorate their own silly little pumpkin for a small fee. This may seem a little wrong, but it was so cute to see children dipping their toes into the pool of Halloween and horror. Some sections of the maze made children laugh, other sections made them a little apprehensive. Regardless, at the end, kids were smiling, laughing and excited to go into the next adventure. That is what it is all about right there.
Monster Masquerade Ball
The Monster Masquerade Ball is an indoor activity area geared toward the more creative types. As guests enter, there are tables filled with paper masks. After selecting one kids can color them or take some home for later.
At the far end of the room is is some Scare-E-Oke for the kids too. This is one stop that parents might want to use as a mid-way point for a number of reasons. Most importantly is the air conditioning. After a few hours of running through the park this is a welcome, cool break.
Creepy Crawler Cabin
Next up we have the Creepy Crawler Cabin. Here little nature lovers can interact with and study the scarier side of nature, bugs, snakes and more. We were able to actually hold a walking stick bug on our trip and it was SO COOL!
Ghost Town
Saving the best for last we arrive in Ghost Town. Here kids can trick or treat with Drac the Undertaker, The GhostRider Sheriff, and The Werewolf Barber. This turned out to be a wildly popular area of the park.
Costume Contest Everyday
If your ghost and ghoul is wearing a costume, don’t miss the costume contest in Camp Snoopy, hosted by Snoopy and the Peanuts gang.
We really enjoyed our trip through Knott’s Spooky Farm. The beguiling mix of costumes, candy, and spooky fun with the Peanuts gang is a wonderful time for families. Instead of being sequestered in Camp Snoopy, the all-new Knott’s Spooky Farm spreads the fun throughout the park, giving families something to enjoy together, anywhere that they go. What’s more, this is a far more affordable excursion than Disneyland’s Halloween Time five minutes down the freeway.
Go have some fun at Knott’s Spooky Farm this fall with your little monsters. You will be glad you did.
Knott’s Spooky Farm runs weekends October 3 – Halloween Day, and is included with regular park admission. Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park operating hours are 10:00am to 5:30pm.
