On her walk home, a young mother is lured into a tunnel, unaware of what has been awoken inside on the night of a black moon.

By concept, a black moon is an additional new moon that appears in a month. It can be taken as a rare event. Scientifically, it means the beginning of a lunar phase. But culturally, a new moon can mean a new beginning or a reset for all negative energy to be drawn out. Or, is the dark energy transferred to someone else?

In BLACK MOON, a woman is on her way home but is mysteriously distracted by a weeping young girl inside a pedestrian tunnel. Once the woman sees the girl, she tries to help her. The woman realizes something sinister has taken over the girl and backs away from her to make her way back home. Unfortunately for the woman, destiny brought her to the wrong place at the wrong time, and now she’ll have to escape from the tunnel, if she can, before something or someone takes over her, too.

For a short film, BLACK MOON is amazing; it brings the supernatural to another level. It handles a simple plot with two timelines that connect in the end. The dialogue is minimal, but it sure compensates with the terrific acting of all three characters; it gives more away than a punchline. It’s very well crafted when it comes to the basic scenery and illumination; it must have had great directing. As for the sound mixing, be sure to turn the volume up, not because it is hard to hear, but for the best 5-minute consecutive jump-scares.

BLACK MOON has a dark subject and a chilly way to tell it. It will keep you wondering when the next black moon is and hoping you don’t meet the same fate as the main character in the short film.
