The intensely socially conscious psychological thriller “M.O.M.” (Mothers Of Monsters) gives audiences a first look with the premiere of its trailer this Mother’s Day weekend. Written and directed by unscripted television veteran and award-winning writer, Tucia Lyman, “M.O.M.” is a gripping tale of a distraught mother who suspects her teenage son may be plotting a shooting at his high school.
This female-helmed project employs a powerfully intimate “found footage” style of camerawork as single mom, “Abbey,” documents her son’s disturbing behavior using iPhones, Nanny Cams, and GoPro cameras.
Tucia’s goal with tackling such prevalent and sensitive subject matter is to further evoke a national dialogue surrounding the stigma of mental health and the divisive nature of gun violence which has recently rocked the consciousness of America. By exploring the deeply dysfunctional relationship between mother and son, the film exposes the dark underbelly of this tragic epidemic and becomes not only an entertaining psychological thriller, but a platform to inspire reflective commentary on the state of our nation.
“M.O.M.” stars Melinda Page Hamilton (“Mad Men,” “Damnation,”) new-comer Bailey Edwards, and TV/film icon, Ed Asner. The film comes from Executive Producer, PJ King, and Producers Austin Porter and Emmy-Nominated, Elaine White, in conjunction with Aha Productions (MOM Project, LLC.)
