Joseph Herrera, known for his work on films like Spiral Deep and Detour, is making his directorial debut, Dark Distortion. The upcoming horror feature, set to begin filming this summer in Texas, promises to bring a fresh twist to the genre. The cast announcement was made on Herrera’s Facebook page, featuring a blend of emerging and seasoned actors including Christina Gonzalez, Kionna Williams, and Mitchell Maggard.

Dark Distortion evolves from Herrera’s short film Along Came a Shadow, and stars Christina Gonzalez as Jen, a thief who, alongside Gray (played by Herrera), encounters supernatural disturbances involving a haunted camcorder. The ensemble cast also includes April Hartman, Joe Walker, and Lily Lurid, with horror icon Israel Luna onboard as a consultant.

The plot centers on a group of adult models turned thieves who face unintended consequences after stealing a camcorder that houses the spirit of a murdered child. The film, set against a backdrop of crime and supernatural horror, is produced by Under Control Productions and Embracearm, signaling a promising collaboration between Herrera and producer Martha Chupp.

Filming is scheduled from June 29 to July 18 in Dallas, with distribution already secured and an anticipated 2025 release.
