Fans of the supernatural film noir, Demon Squad, have something to look forward to as Fighting Owl Films launches a Kickstarter campaign for the sequel, Deadwatch: Demon Squad 2. The film, which was originally released in 2019 and featured on the revived cult-classic TV series, Mystery Science Theater 3000, has already received a warm reception from fans.
According to Thomas Smith, the director and co-writer of the film, the response to the Kickstarter campaign has been overwhelming. “Roughly eight hours after launching, and we had raised more than a third of the budget we had for Demon Squad. For no-budget indie filmmakers, that’s mind-blowing,” he says.
Currently, the campaign has over 120 backers who have pledged more than $13,000 towards the filmmakers’ goal. The team at Fighting Owl Films is grateful for the support and excited to make the best possible movie they can with the funds raised.
The sequel to Demon Squad sees the return of paranormal investigators Nick Moon and Daisy O’Reilly as they explore a haunted house filled with monsters and magic. The filmmakers promise an exciting new backdrop for the characters to explore, leaning more into adventure, science fiction, and fantasy.
“With Demon Squad 2 we want to make the best possible movie we can,” Smith explains. “We’re looking at this as our opportunity to produce the movie we want to make, and make it right.”
In 2019, Demon Squad was featured in the revived cult-classic TV series, Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K), with the show’s creator and original host, Joel Hodgson, roasting the film. The experience was exciting and fun for the team at Fighting Owl Films and helped the movie reach a wider audience.
Fans of Demon Squad and lovers of independent film can support Deadwatch: Demon Squad 2 by contributing to the Kickstarter campaign. The campaign and more information about the film can be found on the Fighting Owl Films website.
