Domestically Disturbed is a short film that flows through the narrative of a violent man coming home after having too many drinks. Between screams and blows against his wife, something disturbed happens, and now the man is being tormented by terrifying demonic visions that won’t leave him alone– and there’s no way to avoid it.
There is not much to say about Domestically Disturbed because digging into its details would completely reveal its purpose. In short, the handling of the narrative is shocking and satisfying by leaving a conclusion in favor of one of its characters. It is purely a visual project with a raw, dark and twisted side barely taking the subject of domestic violence as base material– it’s mostly used as a motive to the projection of the husband’s sins. The short film does not go to the point of exploiting the experiences of a victim because that isn’t its goal– it just keeps its focus on terrorizing and disturbing the abusive husband’s peace of mind.
Despite being a short film, the cinematography is impressive. It shows great dexterity and skill in the swift camera handling to capture everything the viewer needs to drink the essential elements. In second place, but not less important, are the editing and special effects that, although don’t seem to be expensive, adds a great visual value to pass on whether if the budget was high or low– it doesn’t really matter because it looks creepy good.
Domestically Disturbed is a truly disturbing short film that could leave you speechless. Without being vulgar or grotesque, it handles a delicate subject properly, and shows that hell takes control over the souls of abusers.
