New York City’s Metrograph is set to host the exclusive premiere of DREAM TEAM, a surreal sci-fi/comedy, on November 15th. Directed by Lev Kalman and Whitney Horn, the film arrives as the duo’s third feature following L FOR LEISURE and TWO PLAINS & A FANCY. Known for their inventive blend of genre pastiche and sociopolitical themes, Kalman and Horn are back with another distinctive cinematic creation.

Premiered at the 2024 International Film Festival Rotterdam, DREAM TEAM stars Esther Garrel and Alex Zhang Hungtai in an offbeat narrative that humorously pays tribute to ’90s basic cable TV thrillers. The film follows two West Coast INTERPOL agents navigating a bizarre web of mysteries that span psychic coral, a flirtatious scientist, and an invisible coworker with a vengeance. The film’s creators use these absurd elements to craft an episodic journey that challenges conventional sci-fi storytelling.

DREAM TEAM is part of the “Retro-Futurism: The Films of Lev Kalman & Whitney Horn” series at Metrograph, featuring a retrospective of their previous works. Fans can enjoy this filmography both in-person and online through Metrograph At Home. The series highlights the directors’ unique approach to genre and narrative, exploring how their films transform the familiar into something entirely unexpected.
