Brazil’s FANTASPOA FILM FESTIVAL has announced the first Fantaspoa at Home Online Filmmaking Contest. The festival has already launched its free worldwide movie streaming platform, which will be available until the end of May. Emphasizing importance of the world quarantine to contain the spread of COVID-19, the competition aims to encourage film production at home during these difficult times.

Submissions must be short films that touch upon topics or themes related to the current pandemic. The contest will accept animation, horror, thriller, science fiction, fantasy, documentary, performance, or experimental genres. The project must be made between April 4th and April 18th and shot in the filmmaker’s own home, respecting the need for quarantine and social distancing.

The festival programmers will select the best short films, making them available online for audience voting. The audience will then choose the contest winner by popular voting, who will receive filmmaking services worth over $10,000 USD. Prizes include personal consultancies for future projects offered by names including Andy Muschietti, Pedro Rivero, and Rodrigo Teixeira. The winner’s next feature will also receive an original poster design by acclaimed British artist Elizabeth Schuch, an original theme song by Argentinian composer German Suane, a DCP made by Black Lagoon, and Portuguese and Spanish subtitles courtesy of Fantaspoa and Macabro Film Festival.

The deadline for submissions is April 18 at 11:59 pm PST; all films can be submitted via Fantaspoa Film Freeway. The entry fee is $15 US for international short films. All proceeds (excluding the Filmfreeway service fee) will go towards the Fantaspoa Crowdfunding campaign.
