If you see one stage show this Halloween, take a gander at the new Halloween superstar, Ghoulmaster. He is about to open the doors to his secret Haunted Playhouse this October. And you’re invited. 1984 Entertainment, LLC presents the World Premiere Original Theater Experience; Ghoulmaster’s Haunted Playhouse produced by Pete Carter & Charles Convery opening Friday, September 25 through Saturday, October 31 at The Hudson Theatre Mainstage.
The insanity is at fever pitch with clever tongue-in-cheek humor and plenty of irreverent bloodshed. Creator, Pete Carter describes the project as “Rocky Horror” meets “Pee Wee’s Playhouse”. This isn’t a big show though. Only a certain amount of audience members will be allowed to enter for each performance. An intimate black box theater experience that is guaranteed to bring Halloween magic & nostalgia to all who dare to enter.
Ghoulmaster is an eccentric, reclusive showman who chooses to live his fantasy life as if he were horror royalty. He is like the love child of Elvira and an 80’s pop star Dracula. His main goal is to stimulate all of the senses of his Playhouse guests.
Pete Carter created the eccentric “Ghoulmaster” character several years ago and quickly gained legions of devoted fans, or “Ghoulies”. His production of “Ghoulmaster’s Ghosts” ran for 6 seasons at Six Flags Great Adventure’s Fright Fest in Jackson, New Jersey. It was hugely successful and grew into one of Fright Fest’s most popular shows.
Ghoulmaster’s cult-like following grew with his message of acceptance, anti-bullying, and making your dreams a reality. His bizarre androgynous appearance made him a target for conservative media and confused parents FABULOUS!. The show appeals to anyone who has ever felt like a misfit, a weirdo, or a freak. Those of us who celebrate Halloween all year round.
Fellow columnist Jeff Heimbuch and myself were in the room at ScareLA preparing for the Bloody Ballroom event when The Ghoulmaster began rehearsing for his performance. To say that we were transfixed would be an understatement. Riveted by the extreme absurdity and pulse-pounding music, we were instantly sold on Pete Carter’s special brand of blood-soaked love and acceptance.
Ghoulmaster’s Haunted Playhouse features original music, dance, comedy, magic, blood, puppets, cobwebs, g-strings…and glitter. It’s a month long costume party.
