It was one year ago today that a new site was born and the landscape of scares was forever changed. HorrorBuzz was launched on July 1st, 2015 with the aim of offering fans of the horror genre a new, unique place to embrace all things spooky. This was to be a special, accessible site for horror, one that invited all to explore and find their inner demons and embrace it.

Over the first year we attempted to deliver the very best coverage on everything scary that we could. Over our first haunt season we visited a total of over 60 haunts nationwide collectively and pushed ourselves to the limit. It was SO worth it. We’ve also meet so many wonderful people, have been embraced by the horror community and seen our dream project become something big. But WHY do we do it? For the love of the scare. plain and simple.

Of course none of this would not have happened if it weren’t for a few key individuals. In particular, Lara Hanneman, Rick West, Johanna Atilano, Ken Toghia, Jeff Heimbuch, and Andrew Strain of Blue Haze entertainment. This crazy dream project would not have happened if it weren’t for these key people with their loving support and endless encouragement.

I would also like to thank the launch staff. Uncle Mike, Troy Parsons, Kimmy Erin, and Mary Imagination for jumping onboard right at the beginning and not being afraid to try something new, something ambitious, and something a little crazy. It was because of you that they site was able to launch with what it did. I am forever grateful.

As the owner of this crazy blood-drenched three ring circus, I want to thank everybody in the haunt community, the horror community and family and friends for always being there to support us. We are #HauntFamily and you have proven that.

Below are a few very kind notes from dear friends on this most auspicious occasion.

I just wanted to say happy one year HORROR BUZZ. I remember meeting at Denny’s for the first time I was nervous you’d hate me but you were the nicest guy on planet. I’m honoured to have been covered by HORROR BUZZ. You are passionate and dedicated, and a genuine person. All the best with HB and to year two.

If there’s one thing that I can say that Norm is passionate about… it’s horror. For years, we’ve been through many Halloween adventures at various theme parks and events, and that sparkle in his eye as we walked through these haunted attractions was hard to miss. When he told me about this idea he had of creating a new website, I was ecstatic. His passion for horror is infectious, and the hard work is truly recognized in the many articles, photos and coverage that have been published over the last year. Happy one year anniversary, HorrorBuzz! Cheers to many more horror-filled years!

Johanna Atilano, Producer Midsummer Scream

I’ve been involved in the horror genre and community for a long time now, and I’ve always felt its greatest strength is the camaraderie among fans. We may celebrate dark, strange, and twisted material, but behind the films and the fandom are some of the kindest people I’ve ever met. They bring an unbridled enthusiasm for the genre that also translates into a kinship with others who feel the same way. It’s a special group of people, and I’m proud to call many among them friend. Although relatively new to the genre scene, I think what makes HorrorBuzz truly thrive is that it understands that sense of community. Norm and his writers are all dedicated fans, but also loving ones. What I really like about the site is that it truly feels celebratory. From haunts to flicks and beyond, you can tell they really love chasing a good scare…and revel in sharing the experience with others. And really, that’s what horror is all about…a shared experience. These aren’t called “cult” movies because they are meant to be solitary. HorrorBuzz embraces the fright, embraces the fans, and is really doing a great job of providing an enthusiastic and fresh new voice on the scene.  Cheers to HB on its first birthday. Here’s to many more ahead.
