It’s Spring and you know what that means, Scream Break is back at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Open Fridays & Saturdays, March 22 – April 13, Scream Break is an after-hours event that features two scare zones, two dance party areas, two haunted houses, and a select number of Magic Mountain’s world-class coasters including the new WONDER WOMAN™ Flight of Courage in DC Universe.
While the annual Halloween event, Fright Fest, plays the scares straight, Scream Break is the fast and loose version. Here you are invited to make some noise, be it a scream or a laugh. The result is a big party vibe that is goofy, fun, and never takes itself too seriously. No question this is one of the best things that Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Entertainment department has developed in a while and we hope that the event continues to grow.
Scream Break is a three-hour event, lasting from 9pm to Midnight, Fridays & Saturdays, March 22 – April 13. Starting at 7:30, guests can enter the main gate, and they are directed to Demon’s Row, where the event kicks off. As the park closes for day guests, Scream Breakers are invited to hang in this scare zone and interact with the collection of undead partyers. Here a frat house energy abides. Drunken zombies, Frat Moms, and other characters playfully engage guests until the event opens.
The ensemble of actors here set the tone for the event. More importantly, though, they do a phenomenal job. Six Flags seems to have collected their a-listers for this area as every one of them has a character, a schpiel, and sharp improv skills. After seeing the rest of the event, you might find yourself back here just to hang with the monsters.
Coasters
During Scream Break, some of Magic Mountain’s best and newest rides are open. Full Throttle, Goliath, CraZanity, Twisted Colossus, BATMAN™ The Ride and WONDER WOMAN™ Flight of Courage. The night that we attended we went straight for Flight of Courage and that was a smart move. There was only one train in operation which made the line move at a glacial pace.It was worth the 20 minute wait that we had, but I can’t imagine how things would be if the park were more crowded. The rest of the attractions were walk-ons and it was glorious.
SCARE ZONES
There are two scare zones featured at Scream Break.
Demon’s Row
Demon’s row acts as the holding area for visitors until Scream Break officially opens. Here guests can join the best college party in the afterlife listening to music, playing skull beer pong, and goofing around with this group of party monsters.
Bloodborne Hollow
Bloodborne Hollow is a small enclave of fear situated next to the long path that leads from Full Throttle to the D.C. Universe section of the park. The atmosphere seemed to be a generic vampire/werewolf motif. The actors here do their best to bring life to the area but it takes a lot of work. Monsters taunt passers by and there is a photo op featuring the Fright Fest heart. Other than that, however, there’s not much to see.
Dead Man’s Party
Blowing up the D.C. Universe Dead Man’s Party. At the center of the entrance to the area is a stage and a DJ. Monster clowns and other creatures swarm around the stage and entertain the crowd. This is a fun area to people watch and listen to music.
Haunted Attractions
SAW
After it debut at Fright Fest 2023 as SAW X, this maze returns unchanged as SAW. Fans of the series might have some fun with this walk through for the “Oh, I remember seeing that in the movie.” moments that include the needle pit, the Eye Vacuum, and the Bathroom Trap. Our problems with this experience remain however. As ambitious as SAW is, themaze is far too bright. Work light bright. This begs the question, WHY? We are left to wander well lit passages passed gory scenes that offer little surprise.
Saw is a worthy effort and an ambitious property for Six Flags to attempt. The set pieces are nicely detailed and the performers really do sell it well. Let’s hope they adjust a few things and improve this experience.
Condemned House Party
The crowd favorite, Condemned House Party returns for another round of necro-partying. The scares here are more of the startle variety with partiers bursting out of corners to revel in the chaos. The energy in this maze is infectiously silly and fun. The bright lighting actually works here in this maze and yet, still, they find a way to work in the jump scares. Again the talent here totally rocks the house with their boundless energy and fun. I would love to see the story of the house party evolve in the coming years to add to the absurdity of the experience and give something for returning fans to look forward to.

Scream Break at Six Flags Magic Mountain is a fun event that is well worth the price of admission and parking. It might seem like 3 hours isn’t enough time to take it all in but the crowd levels we experienced were low, leaving the longest waits to the mazes which averaged around 20 mins each and the rides were all walk-ons aside from Flight of Courage. Please, Six Flags, keep developing this event. It’s a wonderful sort of Halfway to Halloween marker that gives us a little oasis of scares and thrills as we wait for spooky season.
