It has been an exciting weekend for gamers all over with some huge names hitting the market with the big MMORPG of Lost Ark and the sequel to the survival-horror game of Dying Light 2, whilst far from being able to pull in the numbers that other platforms do particularly through mobile as players find the best options when looking for more options of these types of different games, but by passing the three million unique player mark it has certainly had a huge impact.

Whilst the game may not be a full-on horror title as it often leans into the survival and zombie elements more often, it has developed a huge fanbase in the horror space as a game that can have its very tense and intimidating moments too and by stepping up these features with some better graphics and more creative atmosphere building, Dying Light has plenty of moments that will have players on the edge of their chair, or slumping back whilst biting their nails. There have been some criticisms aimed at the game, most notably with the main story quests and the dialogue of the game too, but with games like this it’s often the atmosphere that’s built around the game rather than the game itself that lends to the widespread success.

It has been a great couple of years for horror fans as a whole too, last years release of Resident Evil Village was extremely well received but for the opposite points to above as the game had been praised for it’s incredible story and great dialogue too – where some felt it did  fall down was also the opposite with some aspects of gameplay not flowing as well as had been hoped but was certainly more of a complete package and helped to show further depth in the horror genre for gaming.

There’s a lot of hype around the horror genre lately and something that will likely only continue to grow as it is a genre that is quite active once again, particularly with games just around the corner like Elden Ring which is from the Souls series and another horror-fantasy based RPG. With a storyline in part written by George R. R. Martin too, it could be one of the few games that manages to blend not only a dark and eerie landscape, but with fantastic writing and gameplay that also follow too – with Elden Ring releasing in just a few weeks, the three million number put up by Dying Light 2 may quickly seem like it pales in comparison.
