I Adore Dolores is a short film in the style of a 90s era sitcom pilot, laugh track included. We meet title character after a messy divorce from a famous fast-food clown that has more than a slight resemblance to the red and yellow one you might be thinking of. What follows is nothing short of a fever dream that includes but not limited to singing, a talking wall and a manbaby.

What you get out of I Adore Dolores is largely based on the type of humor you’re a fan of. If you enjoy zany sketch comedy, this may be more in your field. If you prefer a more nuanced and subtle approach, then you would be better off skipping this. While the premise is interesting at first, the jokes can wear thin.

With that said, the acting isn’t really at fault here. It’s mostly a two person show. With Dolores (Jo Rou) and Dorma (Sarah Natochenny) being the focus its easy for them to shine, even if the script isn’t all that strong. Jo brings the manic energy needed for the title character while Sarah does well as the former stepdaughter that Dolores is trying to reconnect with.

I Adore Dolores runs under thirty minutes but even that can seem too long. It feels like it belongs as a recurring skit in something like MadTV (when that was a thing) but not a full-on sitcom length show. When the credits finally roll, I was one eyeroll away from just checking out. But looking back some of it stayed with me and I realized that I didn’t dislike it as much as I originally thought I did. The jokes can still be cringy as all get out but if you sit through it, you might find a bit more heart than expected.
