The critically acclaimed indie superhero title—Cla$$war by Rob Williams, Trevor Hairsine, and Travel Foreman—will be available for the first time in trade paperback from Image Comics this July 2020. For those unfamiliar, a synopsis from Image:
Love your country then rip it down! In Cla$$war, beloved supersoldier, American, uncovers the dark truth behind the White House and burns the word “Liar” into the forehead of the president on live TV. Now on the run with a rogue CIA agent, he intends to reveal everything he now knows to the world. Can his former teammates, the superteam Enola Gay, stop him?
Despite the original run of the comic debuting in the very early 2000s, the premise is still intriguing and topical. I hadn’t encountered the series previously, but after reading the announcement I headed over to Comixology and saw that the first issue is actually free. Cla$$war seems like a home run for fans of The Boys (both the comic series and the recent Amazon adaptation) and Ennis’ Punisher run. While the series is heavily reflective of the Bush administration it was published alongside, the themes still seem relevant and engaging especially for those who don’t mind political discourse in their fiction.
Cla$$war will be available on Wednesday, July 15 and in bookstores on Tuesday, July 21. It can be pre-ordered at your local comic book shop, on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.
