Howdy Pardner! We find ourselves back on the farm or another round of hunting haunt happenings and hints of horror at Knott’s Scary Farm. Yes it’s time for the Knott’s Scary Farm Haunt Tracker. Labor Day has come and gone. With that the official end of summer and the beginning of the mad dash to decorate the park in just 16 days to throw the biggest, baddest, most spectacular Halloween event ever. Of course, it isn’t just about the decoration although Mr. Shaddic would have you think otherwise. No, there are thousands of monsters being trained in the art of scaring and sniffing out fear in and out of the fog. Then there are the two major shows, Elvira’s Dance Macabre and The Hanging® Finding Gory. Then there was the major revelation of a brand new virtual reality experience coming to three Cedar Fair parks for haunt, including Knott’s Scary Farm. Let’s get started.
Entering the park we start in Ghost Town, the original scare zone. We have to look, but we can begin to see trickles of spooky decor popping up on rooftops, almost unnoticeable for now.
Skeleton Key Rooms
We now focus on the Skeleton Key rooms as a major announcement was made this week. In addition to the four, already announced rooms that include Slasher, Prey, Visions, and ZOZO, we now have FearVR: 5150.
VISIONS
In this Skeleton Key room you team up with the ghost hunters from Parnormal Inc. Guests must investigate the Green Witch Museum in Ghost Town where it is not the building that is haunted, but the various items contained within. Using a Phantom Finder augmented reality device, guests will be able to identify and witness paranormal activity connected to items from the Sarah Marshall Witch Trial. So far there really isn’t any noticeable work here just yet. But to be honest, since it is an augmented reality piece, there may not be much to look for.
ZOZO
ZOZO, the terrifying concept of creating an experience based on this legend makes us eager to jump in and try it out. Here we see that the room has been enclosed and surrounded with green walls. Not much else to see here until September 22 when the room opens.
FEARVR:5150
We recently reported the announcement of a brand new type of virtual reality experience called FearVR: 5150. After paying an uncharge, guests will arrive at the Boardwalk/Carnevil section of the park and be strapped into a wheelchair, then fitted with noise cancelling headphones and a SamsungVR headset. They will be inmates at an asylum where a possessed patient has escaped and is wrecking havoc. Story here
Still not sure what the heck this thing is…
Gunslinger’s Grave: A Blood Moon Rises
We see that more progress has been made on the return of Gunslinger’s Grave: A Blood Moon Rises. It seems that it will be the same layout as last year where the attraction empties out toward the carousel in Fiesta Village.
The Red Barn
The basic premise of The Red Barn is nasty, gritty, and downright primal. Enclosed in the big red Wilderness Lodge, we really can’t see a whole lot other than what is coming out of the back side of the building.
Shadow Lands
The other, highly anticipated creation from Jon Cooke is the high-concept maze, Shadowlands. Taking immersive haunt making even further, we see that guests will enter a forbidden forest and approach a dilapidated home on their journey through the Shadow Lands.
This is going to be an amazing start to this interesting maze. We next see the back end of the attraction landing in a similarly desolate, grey, wasteland of stone walls and dead trees.
Guests will then exit this red hall.
Count us and insanely excited for all of these new, original additions to Knott’s Scary Farm. Over the next week we will be able to see things move fast as the park goes from summer fun to scary haunt mode faster than you can say BOO!

The Hanging® Finding Gory
We can’t forget the all-new The Hanging® Finding Gory show. The set is coming along nicely with the gallows sitting pretty, right in the center of the new stage. We are interested to see how the crowd flow works here with guests watching The Hanging in a totally new way. It seems like it will be a lot easier to manage.
That wraps up our look at Knott’s Scary Farm’s progress for the week. We will be back soon to share even more progress on a faster schedule than normal as the action ramps up.
