Coffee Stain Publishing, the team behind Satisfactory and Deep Rock Galactic, and Vaulted Sky Games have revealed they’re joining forces for the launch of Midnight Ghost Hunt, the multiplayer hide-and-seek game that offers a chaotic twist on the prop hunt genre. At the PC Gaming Show at E3 today Coffee Stain and Vaulted Sky showcased a new trailer for the much-anticipated viral sensation and revealed an upcoming Alpha that aspiring ghost hunters and poltergeists can sign up for now.
Midnight Ghost Hunt offers players an action-packed and often hilarious take on the prop hunt genre that sees the props fight back. In the spooky 4v4 multiplayer title, Hunters work together using an array of gadgets to hunt down the Ghosts hiding inside the haunted mansion. Ghost players possess seemingly innocuous objects and hurl themselves at Hunters. The Hunters will desperately try to destroy every Ghost before the clock strikes MIDNIGHT. If they fail, the tables turn, the Hunters become the Hunted! The lights will flicker off, and chaos and ragdoll physics ensue.
An Unreal Dev Grant recipient, Midnight Ghost Hunt first made waves in November 2018 when Vaulted Sky shared a work-in-progress preview clip on Reddit. The post quickly took off and saw over 40k upvotes and over 1M views on the platform alone. The second post in March 2019 saw over 130k upvotes and 3.1M views, cementing the public appeal for the concept.
“We wanted to give context to the prop hunt mechanic and the poltergeist versus hunter setup really delivers on that whilst creating ludicrous moments where lamps and grandfather clocks layout unsuspecting players,” said Samuel Malone, Game Director, Vaulted Sky Games. “We’re incredibly hyped to be working with an awesome indie label in Coffee Stain who have a track record of launching these viral, quirky games and we can’t imagine a better fit for us.”
“We love Midnight Ghost Hunt. Vaulted Sky is a perfect example of the type of partner we’re looking for, a small hungry studio with big dreams who’ve created something unique,” said Anton Westbergh, CEO/Co-Founder of Coffee Stain. “We’re constantly searching for extraordinary games that we can help reach their full potential, and Midnight Ghost Hunt immediately captured our attention as a game we had to sign.”
