Adjacent to the bumper to bumper traffic on the 5 freeway lies The Halloween Club. Within this Halloween megastore’s walls you’ll find a vast number of aisles piled high of bones, costumes and props. For the past six years The Halloween Club in La Mirada has been host to a gathering of everything eery as vendors set up booths and sell their wares to enthusiasts.
This year was Mommy Fearist’s first time at SpookShow and she was delighted by all of the booths. Any fan of Halloween, oddities or the macabre could find a number of handmade items at the SpookShow.
Here are the top 5 things that she spotted:
COSPLAY!
There were Zombies, skeletons and Babadooks…OH MY! As normal with this crowd, there were times when it was hard to tell if someone was cosplaying or perhaps, this was just another day for them. Either way, there were plenty of characters to see. My favorite was the KISS family. A+ for creativity and accuracy; the chest hair on the kid was a nice touch!
Spooky Baby
Spooky Baby by Baby Cali Style: a vendor dedicated to baby/toddler clothes tailored for little ghouls. It used to be hard to find black onesies let alone onesies with Pennywise or Jason Vorhees on them. Check out their Etsy site here that goes beyond just the typical pumpkins and bat adorned baby clothes for Halloween. (Although their pumpkins and bats are pretty darn cute and Mommy Fearist approved)
Taxidermy!
The one thing I didn’t know that I needed in my house up until today. From bats to gators; mice to bugs, there were several booths who had some very interesting home decor. Sideshow By Connie especially piqued my interest as her balance between beautiful and macabre was delicate yet bold enough to make a great conversation piece in your house or office. Follow her on instagram!
The Poisoned Apples Sweet Shoppe
The Poisoned Apples Sweet Shoppe was worth not just one but two visits today. Their delectable candies and candied apples were show stoppers. I took home some treats that didn’t make it into my driveway before I realized the bag was emptied and I had chocolate all over my fingers. Oops, there goes the diet!
Seriously though, check out their online shop here.
Family Fun
Today was all about family fun. That celebration of family and the “Halloween Culture” was fully embraced by none other than Woochie. That’s right, the trusted and affordable prosthetic company was the first thing that caught my eye today. Located right at the entrance/exit the good people from Woochie were applying prosthetics and makeup to attendees. I was lucky enough to catch a couple of kids trying to sit still while getting into the spirit of the event.
Marshall, four years old, was tentative walking into SpookShow but seemed to relax once his makeup was done. I urge anyone with a kid who is not so sure about all of the masks and costumes to get your kid into costume. It really helps them understand and process that it is all just make-believe.
On the other hand, there is Bryce. He is six years old, lives in LA, is into Chucky and Zombies. He was eager to jump into the chair for makeup.

I can’t believe it took me six years to make it out here but I definitely will be back next year. Hopefully, I’ll remember the sunscreen next year because even though my perusing the SpookShow took a couple of hours, the sunburn might last a couple of days.
