Monsterpalooza kicked a blaze of blood-drenched mayhem, starting a three day horror festival at the Pasadena Convention Center. Fans of the frightful lined up around the corner to get in and see the collections of makeup demonstrations, limited screenings of upcoming horror pics, masks, sculptures, and collectables. That’s not to mention the chance to see their favorite horror icons from the printed page to film. This is one huge event that you should not miss if you are a fan of horror.
The collection of horror art and sculptures is simply ridiculous. Check out the work.
MUSEUM
One of the highlights of Monsterpalooza is the Museum. Here, in low, theatrical lighting, we get to come face-to-face with lifelike sculptures of our worst nightmares. What was so surprising to us was the detail and the life-like appearance of the pieces in this section of the show. Nearly every piece is to scale, lending to the life-like feel. There is some remarkable stuff in here.
COSPLAY
Of course with any major convention, the revelers love to dress up. The creativity and attention to detail on some of these costumes was remarkable. Check it out.
Friday saw some beautiful make up demonstrations too including the work of Steve LaPorte, Eryn Kruger Mekash, Richerd Redlefsen, Christina Waltz.
One of our favorite hidden gems of the show is the 3D Theater. Here in the 3D Exhibit Theater the wonderful 3D Space is screening stereoscopic gems including Jaws 3D with the films director on Saturday. This place is freakin cool.
Overall Friday was a great precursor to a killer weekend of horror and fun. Here, the horror movie world and the haunt community coalesce. We have two more days of macabre fun headed our way so get ready.
Monsterpalooza runs now through Sunday at the Pasadena Convention Center.
Saturday, 11:00am-6:00pm, Sunday 11:00am-6:00pm
