As of July 16th, 2020, psychological narrative Neversong is now available on all consoles! Players only had a short wait since the game’s initial release on Steam back in May 2020, and now console fans everywhere get the chance to play this somber yet beautiful 2D platformer. Available for $14.99 on not only Steam, but also Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, this is an affordable game for anyone wanting to hear a dark story while solving numerous types of puzzles and uncovering mysteries hidden in the past.
- From Red Wind Field to the haunting halls of Blackfork Asylum, explore six moody, illustrative levels.
- Fight your way through hordes of bosses, monsters, and blood thirsty grown-ups with your trusty baseball bat.
- Immerse yourself in a breathtaking piano-centric soundtrack.
- Join your quirky child-hood pals and trusty pet bird on an adventure to discover the truth about your recent coma.
The player plays as Peet, a young boy who wakes up from a coma only to find his girlfriend, Wren, has gone missing. Not only that, but his once calm hometown is now overrun with a wide variety of monsters, and all of the adults have vanished. Simple hack-and-slash combat and puzzle-solving lead in the gameplay department, this twisted and moody story also leans heavily into some dark themes, which the game does warn players of in the beginning.
Thomas Brush also quotes this game being “all about the death of youthfulness, but more importantly, the redemption one can achieve after the loss of that innocence.” So if this psychological narrative peaks your interest, be sure to pick it up on any of the now available platforms, and be ready to discover who you really are, deep down, in Neversong.
