Horror enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The iconic eighties’ slasher film, The Hitcher, is getting a spectacular Limited Edition overhaul by Second Sight Films. Set for release on September 30, 2024, this brand-new 4K restored version, supervised and approved by director Robert Harmon, promises to bring the terror of the original film to a new generation of viewers.

Directed by Robert Harmon and written by Eric Red, The Hitcher stars the late Rutger Hauer in one of his most memorable roles. Described by Empire as “The best Hannibal Lector that never was,” Hauer’s portrayal of the relentless hitchhiker, John Ryder, has left an indelible mark on the horror genre. The film also features standout performances by C. Thomas Howell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Jeffrey DeMunn.

The Limited Edition set is a must-have for collectors, presented in a stunning package with new artwork by Adam Stothard. It includes a 200-page hardback book and is packed with special features such as new interviews, a new commentary, and a wealth of archival material, including two short films.

The story follows Jim Halsey (C. Thomas Howell) on a long-distance drive across the deserted Midwest highways. After picking up a hitchhiker, John Ryder (Rutger Hauer), Halsey quickly discovers he’s in the company of a relentless serial killer. Framed for a string of murders by Ryder, Halsey’s only ally is a caring truckstop waitress (Jennifer Jason Leigh) as they attempt to escape both the law and the psychopath.
