Scream Team Releasing has picked up BENEATH THE OLD DARK HOUSE for distribution, written and directed by Matt Cloude and produced by V2 Pictures. The film is an homage to beloved 80s horror anthologies (such as Creepshow, Tales From the Darkside, and Cat’s Eye), and stars Brinke Stevens, Christy Johnson, and Kaylee Williams.
The film follows a mysterious being, known only as “Coffintooth”, who kidnaps a young woman and takes her to his creepy domain, deep in the catacombs of an old, dark house. It is in his lair that she must bear witness to three chilling tales of carnage, terror, and horror:
The Bride: A psychotic man kills young women and takes their pieces as trophies. Will he be able to find the perfect woman to piece together into his perfect bride, or will his lust for love and blood go unrelinquished?
The Doll: A young woman inherits her grandmother’s house, only to discover a mysterious doll that holds a horrifying family secret.
The Witch: A mysterious man goes to visit an author who may be harboring something evil.
This actually looks like fun, mainly because the focus is on not taking it seriously. The camp and cheese is THICK with this one and reminds me a bit of the fake trailers that preceded the Grindhouse films. Plus, casting Brinke Stevens (an original actor from Tales From the Darkside) is a cute nod to the older films this one pays homage to.
The release date of Beneath the Old Dark House is currently TBA.
