Pipeline is a perfect storm of not good things. The story itself could have been interesting but it’s held back by awful editing and poor writing. As we go through the motions of the movie, there are hints of something cool. But it’s quickly weakened by the dialog. Even the motivations of the antagonist were briefly understandable then they kept talking and any sympathy disappeared. Though it can fall into the “so bad it’s funny” category. I would be hard-pressed to find actually highlights to this film.

While staying in a rented house for a few days, a young woman starts the smallest load of laundry ever. She meets her end by something unknown in the pipes. Jump ahead a few weeks and we see a group of college students heading to the same house for the weekend while going to a music festival. What follows is a fight for survival against something not quiet human, while also fighting the humans feeding it.

One of the roughest parts of Pipeline is the acting and writing. Overall, everything is delivered wooden and forced. The characters are written as puppets of actual people and have less actually personality then the washing machine from the beginning. But even bad acting could be helped with good writing or even decent writing, unfortunately, we don’t get much of that here either. Besides bad choices being made throughout and actions that make little sense, the dialog is groan inducing.

Even beyond the acting and story, from a technical level Pipeline stumbles. The edits between scenes can create a jarring experience. At one point it could be twilight then the next moment it’s day while characters are having the same conversation. One area that isn’t too bad is the sound. It’s mostly even and you can hear a majority of whats going on, not that you would really care though.

Is Pipeline the worst movie that I’ve seen? No. But it’s still pretty bad. You will be dumbfounded by some of the choices, such as people trying to yell through duct tape with use of their hands but spending five minutes trying to untie themselves instead of removing said tape. There can still be fun found here, if you make a drinking game out of how many times you roll your eyes. That’s because this film ultimately plays out as the greatest hits of what not to do in a horror movie.

Its clear that there was effort put into this. And there are brief moments that show something good beneath the surface. But for every moment that Pipeline tries to break out of the mold it finds itself in, it’s weakened by the bad acting and thrown for a loop with the chaotic editing. It becomes a matter of one step forward and four steps back. If you’re looking for something to watch during a “bad movie” night, you can’t go wrong with this. Everyone else should just steer clear and look elsewhere for something to pass the time.
