Harris Glenn Milstead was born on October 19, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland. His DIVINE persona became an overnight sensation in 1972 with the debut of Pink Flamingoes in 1972 in which she ate a handful of, well, see pic. Of course, after a successful cult recording career and even more crazy movies, DIVINE finally hit it big playing Edna Turnblad in the original 1986 film Hairspray.
Finally receiving the critical and commercial success that she was looking for, DIVINE was embraced into pop culture in a mass way. So much so that she was actually hired to portray Peggy Bundy’s mother on the hit T.V. series Married with Children.
It was a dream that was never meant to be however as Millstead tragically passed away in his hotel room as the show was in rehearsals. Dammit if only she had gotten the Cha-Cha heels she asked for.
So, in tribute,Plasmic has this rocking cover. Watch, Listen, love.
