Is self-isolation and social distancing driving you crazy? Why drive yourself crazy when you can drive yourself in…to the theater! Sam Sherman, veteran producer and B-Movie extraordinaire, is making his newly restored catalog of “B-Movie” film classics available to drive-in operators as part of a nationwide retro roadshow.
As the current pandemic stifles the entertainment industry, movie theaters have been forced to close, leaving the public without a place to go. In a world where Zoom meetings just aren’t enough, the question remains, how can we feel connected to the world around us and get that wonderfully authentic “movie-watching” experience while still social distancing? And the answer is the drive-in! From the safety of your vehicle, you can enjoy an authentic cinema experience while being (safely) near other people!
Sherman, who serves as President of Independent-International Pictures Corp., will be kicking off the roadshow with his most iconic film Dracula vs. Frankenstein. The film is set to be shown at the Circle Drive-In in Dickinson City, PA on May 26, 2020. Later this fall, George Reis, who produces the semi-annual Super Monsterama Show at The Riverside Drive-In in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, will be bringing Sherman’s Hemisphere Horror films back to the silver screen. Included in the screenings is the popular Blood Island Trilogy from the 1960s. So if you are looking for an authentic 1960s grindhouse experience, look no further!
More than just a movie, Sherman has pulled out all the stops. He plans to work with theater owners to make this event unforgettable. There’s talk of employing throwback nostalgia like gags and gimmicks. Limited edition souvenirs, special guest appearances, raffles, and much more are all planned for this one of a kind blast-from-the-past roadshow. Sherman commented, “As an exploitation pioneer, I know how to recapture the magic and campy fun my films brought to drive-ins during their heyday with good old-fashioned ballyhoo and showmanship … something that has been missing for years in the film business. I think kids and their folks will get a big kick out of seeing something you rarely see today.”
More special promotions and participating drive-ins will be announced in the coming months as the drive-in season gets into full swing. Be on the lookout, this is an event not to be missed!
