San Diego is a short drive south from where most of the HorrorBuzz team resides, as such we don’t always get down early in the season to check out the haunt offerings. Last year through a series of unfortunate haunt events, we were actually lucky enough to discover the independent haunt Savage House.
Now it’s true the first time we saw this haunt, we really wondered if this seemingly tiny footprint offering, residing in a shopping mall parking lot in Mission Valley, would really be able to deliver the same level of haunt as some of San Diego’s other offerings such as The Haunted Hotel, but we were blown away, it became one of our highest rated haunts last year, and this year… it was even better.
So last year the fully immersive story experience focused on a family of backwoods, kidnapping, sadistic cult members. And we met most of the family and interacted with them as we tried to escape from their very detailed country torture compound.
This year we pay a visit to S.P. Industries for their latest offering Infection. S.P. Industries is a fully functional research lab working on a a cure for a new, mysterious virus that is sweeping the nation. Normally a private government research facility, they are opening their doors for a special tour to bring awareness to their efforts to combat the deadly epidemic.
After a detailed orientation video, we enter the control room where there seem to be some power issues, and some other little tiny technical issues.
I don’t want to give away a single horrific detail of what occurs as you head through the facilities laboratory, pharmacy, containment areas, even decontamination if you happen to stray into “unclean” areas.
It is important to know this is a truly scary haunt. If your looking for your typical conga line, teen jump scare experience, your in the wrong place. The monsters you will find inside are not coming from your typical room corners. You will face dark corridors, grotesque medical experiments gone wrong, and if you survive you probably will rush to experience it all again. There is so much attention to detail in this maze, so many unique scares, it really stands out among the other horror offerings in San Diego. This ~20 minute experience is worthy of your visit this final Halloween weekend. One of our top rated again this year (and sure to be a part of our soon to be announced Golden Pumpkin Awards.)
Be sure and tell Gregg, Jenn, and Lauren hi from the HorrorBuzz team and we will see you back here soon…if you don’t end up one of the experiments.
