The Scary Movie franchise is making a comeback, with the original creators Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans reuniting to write an all-new script for the reboot. This marks the first time in 18 years the Wayans brothers have collaborated on a project for the horror-comedy series that became a cultural phenomenon in the early 2000s by parodying popular horror films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Originally launched in 2000, Scary Movie broke records, with a $42.5 million opening that stood as the highest debut for an R-rated horror film and the highest for a Black director at the time. The series became one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror comedies, maintaining a loyal fanbase due to its bold take on horror and comedy.
The sixth installment will be co-written and produced by the Wayans brothers, alongside longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez. Miramax, the original studio, will oversee the production, with Paramount Pictures set to distribute the film worldwide as part of a first-look deal. Production is scheduled to begin in 2025, and Becky Sloviter will supervise the project for Miramax.
Jonathan Glickman of Miramax expressed enthusiasm, saying, “We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen.” Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen echoed the excitement, recalling the joy audiences felt with the original films and looking forward to reuniting on a project that brings laughter to theaters once again.
Fans of the franchise and newcomers alike can expect the return of the Wayans’ unique comedic style when Scary Movie hits theaters. Marlon Wayans, who will also appear in the upcoming psychological sports thriller HIM, produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, is currently on his nationwide Wild Child Tour.
