A few years ago, I became excited when Netflix launched their online streaming portion of their movie subscription services. With instant streaming I could access ANY horror movie (or other movie) that Netflix has available anytime! So I delved even deeper into the genre I love and continued down the road of my horror education. But the sad reality is… Netflix only has a small selection of horror movies out of the millions that exist. Recently a new streaming service appeared that is ALL about the Horror. AMC has unleashed a beta version of this streaming service called Shudder. I was wildly curious about this streaming service for horror movies,so naturally, I checked it out.

When I got to the website I requested to be informed about the services and then got invited to subscribe for a free trial of the streaming services. When it unveiled… it was like a moment of, a kid in a candy store. All of their films are all categorized by “collections” and sub genres; they definitely have a more diverse selection than Netflix. With your subscription you could download the app on your iOS devices, Android devices or your Roku to watch on the go or to cuddle in bed in the darkness and watch a scary movie

I have not seen every horror film in existence, but I’m working on it. There are some films that I have been dying to see but sadly never found available in the selection that Netflix provides in their instant streaming. When exploring Shudder… I have found many films I have been looking for! Such as Magic (the ventriloquist horror movie starring Anthony Hopkins), Dead Hooker In A Trunk (the Soska Sisters’ 1st horror film), Deep Red (by Daario Argento), Spider Baby (the cult horror-comedy film), and the great horror of Basket Case amongst many other tantalizing choices. Seeing these films available I immediately delved into the world of horror for the entire evening that  my subscription was confirmed.

There is such a wide variety of films from classics to slashers to zombie flicks to new horror films, I believe that Shudder is a great service for both the horror expert and the curious person looking to expand upon their horror education. Sure Shudder does not have EVERY horror movie in existence… but the selection is pretty expansive. I do absolutely love how they categorize their films… I just wish there was a search bar to look up and see if they have a specific film.  A save option would also be nice to save certain films to your account so you can locate them faster when you are in the mood for that certain film.

There is also a tab called Shudder.TV, “endless stream of screams”. It is a constant streaming of horror movies. You just click on the tab and it takes you to a page where a horror movie is playing. It’s a great little feature you can turn on and have horror movies play constantly in the background while you get your horror cosplays ready for the next convention or when working on a project. Maybe you will discover your new favorite horror movie amongst the streaming.
