If you’ve ever wondered how Lucy Ricardo from I Love Lucy would react to the revelation that her husband had cheated on her with another woman (if the TV sitcom turned into a horror show), the short film titled Sloppy Seconds would be the ideal answer with a bit of inspiration from Tales From The Crypt.

Philip (Clayton Bury) seems to be the typical hard-working family man who must answer the call of his boss no matter the time of day. His wife Janet (Traycee King) seems bewildered by the late calls her husband receives. She doesn’t seem to suspect anything about it, or that Philip has been cheating on her with another woman. But how much longer can he keep this secret? Or better yet, what will Janet do if she finds out?

Sloppy Seconds is a predictable but very entertaining short. First of all, we have a well-written story from beginning to end– it presents a background, characters structured by stereotypes, and a hellish ending. The portrayal of the characters is similar to that of a married couple in the late 1950s even with the use of modern technology– a housewife wearing a knee-length dress with her apron around her waist and a husband wearing a tie while having a drink. The curious thing about this portrait is that everything is very gothic because of the choice of colors and the lighting chosen. The scenery may not go according to the setting, but tones and tints have been used to correct it. 

Sloppy Seconds would be a great segment for Creepshow. Lovers of gore can expect a bloody ending that’ll make more than one viewer clap for the thirsty revenge of one of the characters, but will leave some asking for more to know how this character’s life will continue– this could even act as an origin story to create a series of shorts based on their life.
