In nearly 24 hours, the video game industry’s biggest annual year-end celebration will begin. Taking place at the Microsoft Theater, The Game Awards will begin at 8pm ET/5pm PT, with the Game Awards Pre-Show beginning just half an hour before. Delivering a record of over 83 million livestreams in 2020, The Game Awards has even been hailed as “the Oscars of the gaming world” by the New York Times. 

 

Produced by none other than Geoff Keighley, The Game Awards is a widely distributed digital event meant to platform some of the most diverse creators and contributors to the video game industry. With a variety of guests such as creators, esports athletes, digital influencers, Hollywood names, fans, and so many more, over 40 different sources will be available for viewers to livestream.

Fans of video games everywhere will want to check in for a night of awards, exclusive game world premieres, announcements and musical performances. 

 

The Game Awards will feature special musical performances by Sting, Imagine Dragons, and the return of The Game Awards Orchestra, conducted by music director and acclaimed composer Lorne Balfe.

 

Along with appearances by (in alphabetical order) Ashley Johnson, Ben Schwartz, Giancarlo Esposito, Guillermo del Toro, Jim Carrey, Laura Bailey, Keanu Reeves & Carrie-Anne Moss, Ming-Na Wen, Paul George, Simu Liu and more surprise guests. Such names and creators of all kinds have been known to surprise audiences with their appearance at The Game Awards, and this year we can expect no less. 

 

With all sorts of awards to be presented, such as the “Innovation in Accessibility” award sponsored by Chevrolet and General Motors, “Most Anticipated Game,” “Content Creator of the Year,” and of course the notable “Game of the Year award,” fans are awaiting in anticipation to see which of the many nominees are to be chosen.

Spotlighting the leading games, studios and creatives from 2020-2021 that propelled the games industry forward, this year’s impressive list of nominees includes 107 different games, individuals, teams and events spanning across a multitude of gaming genres and platforms.
