Recent Image Comics release The Goddamned: Virgin Brides #1 is being rushed back into print in order to keep up with high demand. The Goddamned: Virgin Brides #1 is the first in a five-part return to the 2015 biblical noir series The Goddamned, written by Jason Aaron and featuring art by r.m.Guéra.
If biblical noir sounds like a strange genre descriptor you’re not alone, but the synopsis does help make a bit more sense of the combination:
In the time before the Great Flood, the world of man is a place of wanton violence and unbridled depravity. But hidden high atop a mountain, there is a very different sort of world. One without men. Here, in The Goddamned: Virgin Brides, the holy sisters at a secret nunnery live in paradise, a new Eden, rearing their flock of orphaned girls to embrace their future as blessed Brides of the Sons of God. But when Sharri and Jael, two girls on the cusp of flowering, uncover what it truly means to become a Bride, they realize there’s only one way to escape the bonds of matrimony: run like hell.
The Goddamned universe is described as stark and violent, which makes sense for the world according to the old testament and is backed up by that well detailed but minimally colored cover. The reprint won’t land until mid-August, and even though Image calls the new volume a perfect jumping-on point for the series, the original run is deeply discounted over on ComiXology– the first issue is free, and you can pick up the entire first volume for only $3.99, which is a steal. With prices that low (and, let’s be honest here, an abundant amount of time on a lot of our hands), why not give it a shot?
The Goddamned: Virgin Brides #1, second printing (Diamond Code JUN208564) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, August 19, and will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.
