There are hundreds of different types of collectable NFTs spanning many themes and genres. You can find digital artwork, video clips, profile pictures and pixel art among them. Creators are incredibly imaginative and continue to push the boundaries of this technology. In this article, we are making things a little scary as we draw closer to Halloween. Specifically, we look at the spookiest NFTs ever sold. The five NFT projects listed below all have some type of spooky, creepy or even scary theme!
1. Deadfellaz
Zombies are incredibly popular in modern culture, and you can find many movies and TV series about undead hordes. Deadfellaz, available on the OpenSea NFT Marketplace, plays on this and features 10,000 unique portrait pictures of green zombies.
The artwork is incredible and it follows the trend of randomly generated NFT PFP projects such as Cryptopunks and Ballerz, although it’s not pixel art in this case. The individual Deadfellaz have unique traits such as sunglasses, tattoos, earrings and varying clothing. Currently, there are over 6,400 unique owners, the total trading volume is 29,800 ETH, and the floor price is 0.68 ETH.
2. Spookies NFT
Next, we have the Spookies NFT, this is a creative project that combines both spooky and cute elements. This is a collection of 8,888 unique hand-drawn pieces that each depict a different ghost. They have a traditional cartoonish appearance that makes the ghost essentially look like someone wearing a bedsheet. The artwork is amazing, and each ghost has different accessories and clothing.
For example, one NFT for sale has a princess hat, a red devil’s tail and is eating an ice cream cone. There are some truly random combinations, and this adds to the uniqueness and fun feel of the Spookies NFT.
3. CryptoSkulls
A recurring theme among digital artwork NFTs is pixel profile pictures (PFPs). These have a retro feel and essentially look like they came from old 8-bit arcade games. One such spooky project is the CryptoSkulls NFT. This is a range of 10,000 pixel art skulls of various styles, colors and designs. For example, one NFT has a grey skull with yellow eyes and purple hair, whereas another one has a yellow skull complete with a black pirate eyepatch! This project is incredibly popular and has a total sales volume of over 21,000 ETH.
4. Wicked Craniums
Skulls seems to be a common theme in NFTs and another popular series is the Wicked Craniums. These are unique pieces of artwork that depict different skeletons with various clothing and accessories. The artwork looks great and has a grungy feel while the various accessories are bursting with character and flavor.
There is a Wicked Cranium wearing a leprechaun’s hat, another holding a rose in its mouth and even one with multi-colored sunglasses and dreadlocks. Each skeleton also features a nail through its forehead too. There are 10,000 of these NFTs available with an attainable floor price of 0.09 ETH.
5. Mutant Ape Yacht Club
The Yacht Club series of NFTs is perhaps one of the best known and one of the originals that started the PFP NFT surge. Together with Cryptopunks, the Bored Ape Yacht Club set the bar and illustrated the financial potential these projects could have. After the success of this project, the creators released the Mutant Ape Yacht Club.
This has a similar concept, but all the apes are zombies and have various mutations! This remains one of the most popular digital artwork NFTs and the floor price is a staggering 14.39 ETH at the time of writing, which is approximately $2,700 at the time of writing. There are 20,000 Mutant Apes available, and each one has a different set of traits and accessories. For example, one ape is smoking a pipe and has a stone mutation and a strange pink glass necklace. Another is wearing a sailor’s outfit and is crowned with a devil holding a halo!
The artwork is impressive and the variety of the different accessories and mutants really is interesting. In total, the sales volume of this NFT project is currently over 442,000 ETH!
As you can see, there is a brilliant range of spooky NFTs available to buy and sell on marketplaces. If you are a fan of horror or games such as Dead by Daylight, you will love these different collections. You could even purchase your own NFT and potentially flip it to make a cool profit too – especially on newer projects that have the potential to take off and explode in value.
