The history of Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant dates back to the 1920s when Walter and Cordelia Knott began farming in Buena Park. To supplement their income, Cordelia started serving hot biscuits and homemade preserves at their roadside produce stand. By 1934, her delicious country-fried chicken was added to the menu, becoming an instant hit.

On June 13, 1934, Cordelia served her first eight dinners on her wedding china for just 65 cents each. By 1940, the popularity of the restaurant led Walter Knott to create an authentic Ghost Town to entertain the waiting crowds, thus giving birth to Southern California’s first themed amusement park.

Today, Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant continues to serve its famous family-style fried chicken dinners, complete with herb-seasoned fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, tossed green salad, cherry rhubarb, kernel corn, freshly-made buttermilk biscuits with butter and boysenberry preserve, and a slice of boysenberry pie for dessert.

Don’t miss this chance to celebrate National Fried Chicken Day in the place where it all began!
