Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is the fourth installment in the Trine series from the developers Frozenbyte and published by Modus. This 2.5D game is everything you would want out of a puzzle adventure game, and for only $14.99 USD right now on the PSN store, you have nothing to lose but time!
Plots:
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince follows the adventure of Amadeus, Pontius and Zoya as they travel on a quest through a fairytale fantasy terrain to find the lost Prince Selius. The lost prince runs away from the Astral Academy after tampering with a source of dark magic. Consequently, this brings his nightmares to life which forces the trio to battle their own nightmares and Selius’ nightmares as well.
Gameplay:
Now when it comes to Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, it is the epitome of a co-op adventure puzzle game, but it’s also a lot of fun to play solo. In solo mode, you get to swap between each hero since each hero has their own special abilities to help you advance through each level. Take Pontius for example, the strongest hero of the bunch making him the best at combat; or Zoya with her bow and arrow and her grappler that connects rope to hooks that can either help you get from ledge to ledge or to pull creates to uncover upgrade vials. Each hero helps you solve puzzles to rescue the prince and gain those glorious Playstation trophies we all try to collect.
Pros:
Let’s talk about these beautiful graphics, shall we? Or let’s talk about the perfect narration done by Terry Wilton. There are so many things that Frozenbyte did with this game that are perfect. Take the soundtrack to this game, it fits so well with the fantasy-esque graphics. The small details in each hero make you feel like you’re not even playing a 2.5D side scrolling game. There are so many great things about Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, I can go on and on.
Cons:
Now I know that I have been praising this game left and right, but there is one thing, and I think it’s only one thing I don’t like about this game, and that’s how easy the puzzles are. I loved them but I was looking for a bit of a challenge, and for the most part the “challenge” just wasn’t there for me.
Verdict:
All in all, I loved this game and can’t wait to to play it again with my wife and try our hands at the co-op mode. I really hope there is Trine 5 in the works, because I would love to play it. Now what are you waiting for? Go play this game!
